Each month for the foreseeable future, we are collecting donations to send to charitable organizations and causes in the US. For 2020 and on, these highlighted organizations are ones that are centered around education and the fight against racism. It is clear that the specialty coffee industry, and society as a whole, has much to address regarding this long-standing issue. And a way to start is to contribute to those groups that are knowledgeable about action and teaching those around them to unlearn racism.
For the month of May we will be collecting for Black Aids Institute. This will continue until the last day of the month.
The organization’s main focus is ‘to end HIV in Black communities by engaging and mobilizing Black institutions and individuals to confront the epidemic’ Among their main focuses, Black Aids Institute values Black Empowerment, Equity, Impact, Self Determination, and Integrity. For over two years, they have strove to ‘shift structures, policies, and behaviors to ensure Black people and marginalized communities experience justice, fairness, and success.’
To donate, you can select the amount you wish to contribute as an add-on for your product purchases. Acaia will publicly provide proof of donations when they are sent to the organization.
In their own words:

Our decisions, responses, programming, and messaging are informed by our roots, and by our core values of Black Empowerment, Equity, Impact, Self-Determination, and Integrity.’
‘We see a world where all Black people are free and flourishing without HIV and AIDS, free of stigma and shame, where Black health and well-being are paramount.’
