Monthly Non-Profit: HomeFree-USA

Each month for the foreseeable future, we are collecting donations to send to charitable organizations and causes in the US. For 2020 and onwards, these highlighted organizations are ones that are centered around education and the fight against racism. It is clear that the specialty coffee industry, and society as a whole, have much to address regarding this long-standing issue. And a way to start is to contribute to those groups that are knowledgeable about action and teach those around them to unlearn racism.

For the month of November, we will be collecting for HomeFree-USA. This will continue until the last day of the month.

The organization "is on a mission to be the premier bridge to financial strength and homeownership success for people of color and all communities cross America. We connect consumers, the mortgage finance industry, and government programs to create new homebuyers, sustainable homeowners, affordable homes, and revitalized communities."

To donate, you can select the amount you wish to contribute as an add-on for your product purchases. Acaia will publicly provide proof of donations when they are sent to the organization.

In their own words:

"26 years later, HomeFree-USA is still on the frontlines serving the diverse interests of 6.3 million consumers through its national intermediary network.  We connect government, the real estate finance industry, and consumers to create new homebuyers, sustainable homeowners, affordable homes, and revitalized communities."

"HomeFree-USA’s initiatives include:
  • Fast Track to Homeownership program gets renters ready for mortgage approval and homeownership. Through classes, one-on-one guidance, and an easy-to-follow plan, renters are able to own a home easier, faster and with fewer hassles.
  • The Center for Financial Advancement™ (CFA) is a solution to the industry’s call for more diversity. HomeFree-USA partners with, recruits, trains and places students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) into internships and careers in partnering mortgage and real estate companies. Participating CFA Scholars are exposed to credit, money management, and homeownership in order to become a savvy consumer and future homeowner.
  • HomeFree-USA’s national intermediary network oversees 53 affiliated community and faith-based housing counseling agencies that served 37,827 homebuyers, homeowners and renters last year. HomeFree-USA and each affiliate are approved and regulated by the United States Department of Housing & Urban Development."
