Today, we’re so excited to introduce you to a collaboration project that’s been years in the making. In tandem with Weber Workshops, we designed and created the Orbit single-dose grinder.
We admire Weber for the detailed engineering and careful craftsmanship that goes into every product they create. The EG-1, HG-2, and KEY grinders all demonstrate a level of precision that we as scale manufacturers respect.
The Orbit is an Acaia product. It’s based on the design of the very successful EG-1 and Weber helped with the Orbit’s design and provided general guidance. We appreciate them for sharing their knowledge. The Orbit will be manufactured and distributed by Acaia. Our two companies have a history of working together already, including manufacturing and electrical engineering for both the EG-1 and Bean Counter.
The Orbit grinder has a working prototype and is currently being tested. The grind size ranges from espresso to a coarse Chemex. To fit onto kitchen counters or your home espresso bar, the Orbit’s footprint is small, with estimated dimensions of 15” H x 4.5” W x 10” D (38 cm H x 11 cm W x 25 cm D), which is similar in width to our Orion Mini and Lunar.
Some of the biggest features are:
- 64 mm flat burrs
- Single dosing with low retention
- Stepless grind adjustment
- Maximum 1,000 rpm grind speed
- Built for precise burr alignment
- 250 watt brushless DC motor
For a closer look at the Orbit and live demo of the prototype, we will be holding two live streams this week:
- Oct. 6, 2 pm US-Eastern: Espresso Aficionados Discord server. Check the server at the event time and you’ll find a link to the stream.
- Oct. 7, 2 pm US-Eastern: @acaiacoffee Instagram Live. This will be saved afterward and posted as an IGTV post.
Since the Orbit is still being tested, some features may change from what you observe in the demo. Similarly, new features may be added. 😉
We hope you’re just as excited as we are to be introduced to this grinder. It’s a new product category for us and we’re thrilled to see where this journey takes us. Our estimated limited production timeline for the Orbit is in 2022.
